Yes, Tom, a member-at-large can get the awards and bling pins ( I have ten of
them). Nice little "merit badges", but some of the programs are, IMHO, a joke.
As an AL master observer, I have expressed that opinion to the League with
mixed results (as you might expect).
The only other AL benefit is access to liability insurance that covers star
parties. It is not a killer policy, but it would help in the case of a law
suit.

I always had the notion that AL membership was expensive, but Tim's summary
cleared things up for me. A $10 annual club fee, and the individual option of
joining, seems reasonable, and a trivial expense for SAC.
For the record, I have no interest in joining the AL, but I'd support club
membership. As I understand it, those who are working on observing programs
would be entitled to some nice observing club bling with AL membership.

Does the AL administer these pins to non-AL clubs? The Reflector and AL
meetings likely have no value to SAC, but are there other benefits worth
discussing?
