Bling, Curmudgeon, How will you next expand our vocabulary?
Back on topic, I was unaware of the option Tim points out regarding "Club"
membership. I was under the impression that AL dues were based on a set
fee
per member, if I recall, it was about $4.00/member per year, plus an
Initiation fee. This must be a new option since I last checked (probably
the
last time this discussion was brought up). Sounds to me as thought the Al
needed a way to boost membership numbers.
Like Tom, I personally don't see any benefit to me, but for a $10.00
outlay
to the club, I can't see and detriment to this kind of membership. In
fact,
I'd imagine we'd find out the true interest in members once we get an idea
of how many opt to join.
I'd suggest that if there is in fact interest in this option it be brought
up to the incoming board at the beginning of the year.

So, if the club becomes a society member, it will cost the club

I always had the notion that AL membership was expensive, but Tim's
summary
cleared things up for me. A $10 annual club fee, and the individual
option
of joining, seems reasonable, and a trivial expense for SAC.
For the record, I have no interest in joining the AL, but I'd support club
membership. As I understand it, those who are working on observing
programs
would be entitled to some nice observing club bling with AL membership.

Does the AL administer these pins to non-AL clubs? The Reflector and AL
meetings likely have no value to SAC, but are there other benefits worth
discussing?
