Subject: [sac-forum] Cherry Rd for Saturday night
Hello all;
Just a quick reminder that SAC is having its Novice Group Star Party at the
Cherry Road site tomorrow night. We do have a possibility of clear
skies-hooray. I am hoping for a good group of novices and knowledgeable
observers to help them get a start with observing the night sky. So,
novices, bring your questions and we will try and provide useful answers.
The directions to the site are below.
This will be my last Novice Group get together as the Novice Group Chairman.
I want to thank all the club members who have come out and helped those just
getting into the hobby. I do believe that we have helped many budding
observers and some have gone on to become long time club members. Please
provide Steve Dodder the same level of expertise that you have provided in
the past and I am certain that we can continue to serve the needs of those
looking to get started.
Clear skies to us all;
Steve Coe
Cherry Road II site Directions
N 34d 30.864' W 112d 05.140'
Elev. 4360 ft.
Drive north on I-17 about 70 miles from central Phoenix to the Cherry Road
exit. This is state highway 169. Turn left over the freeway to the west
and go about 5 miles, just beyond mile marker number 10. At the sign which
says "Cherry 6" turn left (south) onto a dirt road. Note: this is the
opposite direction of the arrow that is on the sign. The observing site is
about 6/10 of a mile south on the dirt road on the left, a rather large
field. It is one of the few places where the dirt birm on the edge of the
road will allow you to drive off the road.
