Hi everyone,
I'm a relatively new member but have attended several meetings and 3
publicized star parties in the last 4 or 5 months. The 1st party was the
last official party at Flat Iron this spring. The weather was iffy and
several members had stated on the forum site that they would be going
elsewhere. I was fortunate to have to other members there (one was Rick T.
,illustrious president) and had a good time. The second Party was at Cherry
2 and I was the only one there. I was at a meeting all day and did not have
the opportunity to check to see if anyone else was going. I went hoping the
weather would clear (it did!) and I wanted to see if I could find the site
and was really looking forward to getting out and seeing new things.
Everything is new for me. Last weekend was my 3rd party. The weather
looked iffy again but I went anyway. I was there about 40 mins before
sunset and was prepared to wait out the weather and view by myself if
necessary. Paul Lind (vice president) arrived at dusk and we both were
fortunate to get in a couple hours of clear viewing before the clouds moved
back in. Sorry Steve missed us. By the way the Cherry 1 site is currently
occupied by many Angus bulls. They did not seem to mind us sharing their
field but there are large numbers of cow patties to deal with. I did drive
down to the Cherry 2 site and believe it is accessible on the south side.
It may need a little shovel action to flatten the drainage trench a bit to
allow cars to easily get into it. This certainly looks to be a nicer
location at this time and we won't need to worry about a rancher getting
upset about his livestock getting out. I'm planning on going up tomorrow
night if the weather is at least borderline. If everyone is going somewhere
else that appears to be better, I'll likely go there. I will be out of
town for the next meeting so will miss any follow up for this discussion.
If someone has a good way of posting a link for members and especially
potential members to access the afternoon of a party it would be a great
benefit.
Clear skies to all,
Steve McAllister
