Jimmy, I don't think the comet is bright enough, from your site, or big enough
to be captured in a piggy back image. Unless, of course, you are using
something like a 500mm lens. Yet this is one of those situations where you
have to give it a try and see what happens. This is what I call - experience!
Even with the binos you would have to be at a darker site. Let me know if
Lowell rents time on the comparator. ((:
We may get another chance from a darker site, If the clouds stay away for
tonight.
Hoping for clear skies,
aj

Hi AJ,
Well at least someone in the club has seen it. I tried for the comet the
last couple of nights. One with the 8" out in the back yard with the camera
riding piggyback and last night from N.E Carefree with a faint showing of the
Milkyway but was using a guy's "dime store" bino's he had laying around the
house. Skunked so far but, will try again tonight. Guess I could take all the
images I shot, put together a "Polakis" movie (however Tom does that) and see
if anything moves. (or go up to Lowell and borrow the "blink" comparator)

Put my 8" SCT in backyard tonight hoping to get a view of this comet.
Well, with the heat (100d F), wind (up to 5mph) and the ozone alter earlier
today it wasn't very much. It was located about 1.5 deg from Eldsich. At 80X,
being visible about 1/3 of the time, it was very very faint, round and had a
small round little brighter middle. With a Swan Band comet filter I would call
it very faint, being visible about 1/2 the time. Since it was slightly better
with the filter, this tells us there is more gas than dust- but perhaps not to
much more gas. I could not detect any elongation, or bow shock, due to its
motion.
After a few double stars and a few minutes with Jupiter it was time to call
it quits. With the temperature, increasing breeze up to about 10mph and clouds
closing in it was definitely time to call it quits.
Regardless, it was nice to get a chance to use the telescope, even if for a
little while.
Clear skies, lower temps and no breezes,
aj
