I discovered it isn't just astrologers that feel this way. I was talking
to someone I know a few days ago, who as far as I know does not have
these leanings, and he expressed the opinion that he thought it was
transgressing upon "nature". There may be many more who have these
thoughts than we might think.

As in many things, there are many varied opinions.
That being said, imagine if humans had never set out on the ocean
because "it would transgress on nature". I personally feel that pushing
our "natural" boundaries opens up new, mostly good, possibilities.
On the flip side, there are other boundary pushing things that
scare the crap out of me. Scientists creating their own black hole,
and robots that build themselves to name a couple....
