[sac-forum] Ashleigh in Egypt

Just got a call from my daughter in Egypt. We have been waiting all
night for this call. She landed in Cairo on schedule and went to the
pickup curb and saw many drivers holding signs but could not find one
with her name. After an hour she accepted a ride from two men who spoke
English. While placing her backpack in the trunk she was struck by a car
on the leg. The people seeing this began to laugh. She limped to the
back seat and agreed to the price of 10 Egyptian pounds. They then took
her to the wrong hotel and drove around until they found the right
hotel. Upon arrival the price went up and she needed to tip the driver
and tip the one who unloaded her baggage. This short trip cost her about
$200 us dollars. When she checked in her room was not ready and they
offered her a bigger room. This time she stood up to them and demanded
to speak to the manager who told her that there was a mistake and she
would get the larger room with a view of the Nile for the same price of
the room she reserved. We could hear horns and such in the background
and she told us the she had opened the window. My wife is freaked by now
and told her to close the window and curtains and stay in her room until
the rest of the team arrives tomorrow.

So after being taken for a ride, hit by a car, laughed at and other
improper remarks she is still looking forward to her trip to Luxor and
the valley of the kings where she will begin her dream. At age 10 this
has been all she wanted to do. Now she will put all her studies to work
on the newly discovered tombs. I am a wreck, and we will be worried for
her safety for the next month and 10 days.
