I was playing around with my cellphone's features, specifically the GPS
E911 feature. This can be turned on for all calls or 911 call only.
I had already noticed that my cellphone's time was off more than 30
seconds from WWV (my computers are all sync'd via timeservers), but after
setting the "location" option for all calls (not just 911), I noticed
that the cellphone's time was off less than a second. I'm not sure if
this was immediate or after the first phone call, so I'd like to get some
reports back. After resetting "location" back to 911-only, the time has
still remained very accurate.
The only info I've found so far on the internet is that the GPS features
are an incomplete subset of a GPS unit, but not much info beyond that.
There are three method that 911 positions can be measured, Verizon and
Sprint both use GPS.
