[sac-forum] Re: 5MM or Antennas?

Maybe Thursday I could make it. Antenna looks good even with the heat. I would keep an eye on the wind there. If Antenna has any negative factors, it is wind.

As Dick Harshaw indicated, he and I have discussed the possibility of a Thursday and Friday night observing run. We haven't decided on where that will be because it depends on weather and temperature. To that end I've copied the forecasts from the Flagstaff Office of the National Weather Service and have posted their predictions. For Happy Jack - .THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT...PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGHS 72 TO 80. LOWS 39 TO 49.

For Antenna I've used Parker -
.THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT...CLEAR AND HOT. LOWS IN THE UPPER 60S TO UPPER 70S. HIGHS 102 TO 107. .FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT...CLEAR AND COOLER. LOWS IN THE MID 60S TO MID 70S. HIGHS 96 TO 101. Seems the tempreatures are nice for Happy Jack but don't like the partly cloudy routine. For the Antenna site we have nice clear skies but the day time temperature for Friday isn't so appetizing. We'll wait another day or so and monitor weather developments.

    Dear Fearless Observer,

Don’t be intimidated. Rick Tejera, Jimmy Ray, Chris Hanrahan,
Andrew Goodwin and I all got socked out at the Girls Scout
encampment at Prescott over the weekend too. A few sucker holes,
but nothing worth singing songs over.
    There’s always THIS weekend. I’m planning on a Thursday/Friday
night trip . Don’t know where to yet. It all depends on the weather
    forecast.

Yeah, well, Antennas didn’t work out very well.

After arriving around 5:30 having driven through a wild dust storm,
the clouds were building quickly from the NE. They continued to
move in up to and after dark. We got in about 20 minutes observing
with the 15x70 binocs in Sagittarius before the lightening, dust and
wind drove us back into the truck. What a tease.

    Then it got bad.

We drove home. Besides me, a friend and my son, there was Tim and
Bob, Charlie Whiting, Steve McAllister, and several others I did not
get a chance to meet. Six or seven vehicles total. We never even
got set up. It was that bad.

Do you think I was bummed? Heck, I’m still bummed.

Dare I ask about Saturday the 4^th ? I refuse to be intimidated.

    /Darrell
