Hi Friends,
Bob and I took to the backyard last night and were rewarded with a
glimpse of asteroid 2007 TU24 in Bob's 9.25" SCT.
It took a bit of manual adjustment from the ephemeris settings, but
we located 2007 TU24 and watched it move against the background. It
had a slight orange tinge and either its rotation caused it to pulse
or we were getting heavy convection waves off of the surrounding
homes' roofs. It appeared to dim and brighten in a 25-30 second
period and was definitely moving in a Northeasterly direction (and
heading for Bob's chimney). I realize that the NASA report states
that the rotational period is 1 day, but we did witness dimming and
brightening during our half hour session.
Fortunately, Bob's chimney was spared and we got to see something
that you don't always get a chance to see from the backyard. Quite
an exciting evening.
Tim
