Sorry to jump into the middle as I was just able to subscribe to the =
board yesterday.
I think I understand that Steve will no longer be able to lend us the =
projector we've used for quite some time.
Jan. speaker has his own projector.
Next speaker for Feb. 25th will definitely need a projector. =20
Borrowing one from the university is a royal time consuming pain in the =
arse everytime you want to use it. And there is no guarantee we'll be =
able to get one when needed.
If someone would like to take the job on of borrowing the university's =
projector when needed--have at it. The last time I did it was the last =
time I'll do it. I promise.
Here is a Sony XGA projector from B&H (again) It is $1,250:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=3Dproductlist&A=3Ddetai=
ls&Q=3D&sku=3D285957&is=3DREG
XGA is definitely worth the $250 + shipping unapproved cost overrun. =
Just trust me on that one. Or don't.
It is too important of a matter to hem and haw and drag our feet on. =
And we have only 30 days to get a projector. =20
Actually we do have something near to a champagne budget with the =
accumlation of membership dues that is the money people pay to make a =
club. Let me repeat that: it is the money people pay to make a club. =
It is the purpose of the dues to make the meetings, newsletter, etc.=20
If we are required to get approval from the membership at the meeting =
this Friday for an additional $250-$300 to get a XGA projector then that =
should be our last hurdle in going forward.
If we don't need approval from the membership for the cost overrun then =
I'd like to order it today so I can quit having nightmares about a =
speaker showing up and having nothing to make his presentation on.=20
Let's get this settled _now_ or Friday latest. Astronomy is an =
adventure, not a job.

Hello everyone,
OK, enough of the opinions. The ONLY thing we need to discuss at this =
time=20
is how much projector we need and how much it will cost.
And folks, let's pretend that some of us don't have a stinking clue =
about=20
any of the technical drivel regarding projectors. For example, I see a =
lot=20
about getting an XGA instead of a VGA. Why? Is the VGA an endangered=20
species? Will it blow up after so many uses? Does it release too much=20
radiation into the room? You get the point. Let's see some clear, =
concise=20
reasonings behind WHY we need to get into "more" projector.
How much projector and why....that is the question on the floor right =
now.=20
We'll get to the cost later.
Thad
