This message will be an "attempt" to respond to the many e-mails regarding this
lively topic and I hope it will enlighten, if not begin to enlighten, us this
issue. Note that I have included myself in the
CC list, such that two messages will appear in my in-box; hopefully they will
keep me from forgetting any action items I may wind up with after sending this
message. Some of this will be a repeat of what's
been said earlier but I believe it to be worthwhile to clear the air.
Now on to the fun stuff.
As said earlier here is the order referenced in the February and March 2000 SAC
Newsletters; Messier, Best NGC, Urban List, Best Doubles, 400 Herschel, 1000
New Objects and, finally, Beyond the NGC.
In discussing the 1000 New Objects, there is no predetermined list, it is up to
the observer to supply the objects with the stipulation that they are not
supposed to be on prior lists; those lists being the
Messier, Best NGC, Urban List, Best Doubles and 400 Herschel. Although not
stated in the article, double stars are not allowed.
Note that entries in Beyond the NGC, coming after the 1000, are eligible to be
used for the 1000.
Yes, the 1000 should be repeatable, of course with a different set of objects.
There were no doubles on Steve's 1000 New Objects list.
Unfortunately Gerry Rattley never turned in an observing list for any of
projects and I know he has observed more than what we have available.
I will get with Stan later to make the necessary changes to the web site.
I hope this answers all outstanding questions, and thoughts.
Thanks to all for participating.
Now to prepare for the meeting!
aj
