For the SAC newsletter and the January meetings:
SAC's 2003 Proposed Budget
Before laying out SAC's budget for 2003, let me take a moment to stress
that this proposal is based on nearly everyone renewing for 2003. If you
have not yet renewed, please take some time at your earliest convienence
and do so. Thank you.
I have broken the SAC budget into 8 parts, they are Association Dues,
Awards, Computer, Hosted Events, Insurance, Meeting Expense,
Miscellaneous, and Newsletter. This help group like items together and
allow some flexibility of spending within these groups.
The first group is Association Dues. The only association we the club
maintain is the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). This is $100
per year and I don't expect this to increase.
2002 2003
$100 $100
The next group is Awards. In 2002 we spent about $165. This includes the
SAC 110, Herschel 400, Lunar, Messier, and Messier Marathon awards. This
year the Messier Marathon will have all 110 objects available so more club
members are likely to try this event, so the proposed budget for this
group has been increased to $300.
2002 2003
$164.88 $300
SAC precense on the Internet is paid by hardware replacement. If a part
of the computer dies, we pay for the replacement part. This also includes
software for the web site. The proposed budget is $100.
2002 2003
$69.95 $100
SAC host several events throughout the year and their proposed 2003
budget: the already mentioned Messier Marathon ($100), the
Sentinel-Schwarr Star Gaze ($100), the Grand Canyon Star Party SAC
Luncheon ($200), and our Christmas Party ($100).
2002 2003
$368.79 $500
Our insurance is due annually. No reason for it to decrease, but we will
budget to cover any reasonable increase.
2002 2003
$295 $350
Our biggest group of the budget is meeting night expenses. This covers
meeting room rental and the honoraria given to our speakers.
2002 2003
$980 $1080
There is a miscellanous group to cover just about anything. Included in
this group for 2002 was a mailing from the club's treasurer about the 2002
renewals made last May.
2002 2003
$66.37 $120
Last, but by no means least, is the budget for the newsletter. This is
one of the more volatile items on SAC's budget. Currently cost are being
kept down by some members getting their newsletters via the Internet.
During 2002, several months were not paid for by SAC, yet those months
were apparently printed and mailed out. This will make the 2003 proposal
appear much higher tha it would otherwise.
2002 2003
$566.86 $925
This gives a total of:
2002 2003
$2611.85 $3455
Given our current membership, we have an income of $3304. Assuming that
everyone renews, this means we need six more members this year. We are
not hurting for money at this time, and we don't have to spend the entire
amount. This budget is a good plan for the coming year.
