[sac-board] Re: SAC Handout for 2007 (pub lice vents)

Paul,

I printed it at work and gave it to a few people to look over. One thing
stuck out that I think we need to correct. Lets see if I can explain it
easily.

The way you have it set up the text on the first page continues on the page
that is folded under. All three people I gave it to opened the flyer and
found themselves looking at the map, not realizing the continuation of the
text was visible if they didn't open the whole flyer. They also said they
thought the text should be inside the flyer, not on the front t page. 

With that in mind here is what I think would fix this issue:

1) Put all the text on Columns 1 & 2 on page two. This will have it on the
inside of the flyer where these folks looked initially. 
2) Leave the Schedule of events where it is (column 3 page 2) This puts it
next to the text.
3) Leave the contact info in column 2 Page 1. This puts it on the back
cover.
4) use a smaller map with textual direction to the meeting on page 1, column
one. I know you went through a lot of trouble to make the new map, but I
think something with less detail would suffice. Folks have been finding us
for years. The larger scale map could easily be used on the website and the
NL, so it won't be a waste of time & effort
5) Page 1, Colum 3. Make this a title page as this is the Front and what
folks will see. The Graphics, The SAC Logo and maybe a statement to the
effect of "Celebrating 30 Years of Observing in Arizona" Should be
sufficient to grab the eye.

Hope this doesn't sound nit picky, but I thought a "field test" would help
get some independent comments. 

I've modified it  to demonstrate what I'm talking about. This is just a
Demo, so I used pictures I hand on file, we can use the one Paul has in a
later draft.

I've asked Peter to upload it to the web (Since I have no idea how) for
review.

It looks really good.

Is it possible to decrease opacity on your star chart so that the red
lettering stands out more?

The calendar still lists a dozen meetings in 2007. Are we really going to
have two meetings in June?

The image currently behind the words "Do you need an astronomy club?" is
a star chart with red Telrad circles (yes I may have to revisit this
color) for the three Messier objects in Hydra.  There are two more Messier
objects in Virgo which don't have Telrad circles.  It's usable if you
want to use a 3x magnifying glass at the scope. :-)
