Thad, excellent points, I would love to hear what the down side of
incorporating would be.
The only way to make an intelligent decision is to know all the facts.
I would also hope that the board and members do not see this as a debate,
but a way of improving our club. We all need to keep an open mind. I will
go along with what is best for the club, however it comes out.
I have been searching the internet trying to find other astronomy clubs that
are incorporated as non-profit originations. I will post my finding, if I
find any. Facts, Facts, Facts.

Ya know, this discussion is starting to sound like a debate of the lessor of
two evils....
I know that are/were strong opinions against incorporating, but with the
discussion at hand, it's starting to sound like it would be more "seamless"
than having
all members/participants/etc. sign a waiver. I am curious as to what the
downside to
incorporating is as opposed to a release form. If it boils down to
"simplicity and ease
of use", then we may have to discuss it further to see which one really is
the lesser
of two evils.
And don't feel like we have to save it all for the board meeting. Please,
let's keep this
channel open and working. It's amazing how much ground we've covered in our
spare time. We would have never gotten this far in a board meeting.
At this point, the board meeting will consist of the few other topics
posted, as well
as Paul's outline. Unless there is a compelling reason presented on this
mailing list,
the only thing I may want to add to Paul's outline is if incorporating is a
feasable
option vs. the release form. I'm not swayed either way, nor am I pushing
either way,
I just want to explore the options so that we can decide what the best for
the club is.
Also, we can keep the discussion going, and call for an extra board meeting
next month.
This allows the general membership to give their experiences and opinions,
as well as
gives them a chance to join in on the meeting itself.
Thoughts? Ideas? Rotten tomatoes?
