I don't see why this requires a year in advance prior to the new
president taking office. There needs to be some continuity (since a
president elect cannot, obviously, plan the first month of events), such
as maybe the first 1-3 months, but a whole year seems to me to be taking
away of some of what the president elect could do. I am assuming the
option of not meeting on a fixed week of the month is mandated in the
bylaws or constitution. If not, this is a new direction the president
elect could take.

Maybe we are both missing the mark, or it probably is a matter of my
ignorance of the bylaws (constitution). If part of the vice president's
responsibility is to plan speakers, and I take this to generally mean
events, than it is could take away from his-her's vision of what they
would like to do.

You might be creating a self fulfilling prophesy by sheduling a year in
advance. It is my opinion that it is more difficult to undo something
than to do it. This discourse itself shows that an individual's feathers
may get ruffed if they were involved with the event planning process
when it is questioned - a barrier to changing something.

This is one positive aspect.
