The year needs to be planned in advance since the club does not meet on a
fixed week of the month (eg first Friday of the month). Some club members
may have to arrange their work schedules or vacation schedules to attend
meetings. They need the meeting dates as far in advance as possible.

How could this take away responsibilities from the vice president? If the
meeting dates were fixed to a given week of the month, I don't see how
this could change anything. Indeed, it would mean that the year's
schedule would have to be set before the start of the year or the vice
president could not schedule speakers.

As for "being able to take advantage of other events that were not
anticipated or known", since when has having a schedule stopped us from
rescheduling. I believe there has been two events that caused us to
reschedule a meeting in the past decade: access to the Arizona Science
Center and Steve Coe wedding (I think the latter was because the meeting
was switch to that date unknowingly, and wasn't the former on a normal
meeting night with just a different venue?).

Most changes have been corrections to the schedule, like we'll be doing at
the first board meeting.
