[sac-board] Re: FW: [FWD: Question about Copyright Laws]

(I responded privately to Richard about this.)

Yes, I do have a copy of Wally's "Astro Class Classics" booklet. As
well as material he prepared for the "first" SAC Messier Marathon. I
had intended to scan that myself.
AJ, you had expressed interest in getting a copy of that to Wally's
children.
I may still have that address someplace, but I would have to look for
it. I also have had an HD crash recently...

Andrew, the other problem is that the original documents were Xerox
copies, not very good quality. Wally made some very nice drawings and
finder charts for all the objects, and he had some additional pointers
on observing. But it would be a major job to "update" that, especially
in light of all of the other publications that are now available. That
was produced at a time when there were not so many observing guides as
there are today.

As I mentioned to Richard, Wally told me he had submitted that material
to Astronomy magazine (Kalmbach Publishing) at the time, but they did
not respond. So Wally was "locked out" and could not submit that to
another publisher.
As far as putting it on the web, permission would be up to his
children. I feel it is pretty much of only "historic" interest at this
point.
