Thank you for acknowledging my astute observation. :-)

I think you missed my point, however. One wonders why they need
telescopes for the lecture and planetarium show.

Jen, as you noted, it is highly unlikely the comet will be visible
due to buildings let alone the bright skies at the Science Center.
While the lecture and planetarium show sounds great, telling the
public they will get to see the comet and impact is at best
misleading. Requesting more telescopes to view the comet and impact
makes little sense.

 From the Announcement:
(PHOENIX) On July 3, the Deep Impact Mission will seek to unlock
many of the mysteries of comets, the solar system and the earth's
history when the spacecraft completes its crash course with the Comet
Tempel 1. Arizonans can witness this historic event at the Arizona
Science from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. At approximately 10:50 p.m., the
spacecraft's impactor and comet will collide at a combined speed of
22,800 mph, releasing the energy equivalent of 4.5 tons of TNT. The
Arizona Science Center will set up
a series of telescopes to allow the public to view the comet, the
impact, and other objects throughout the evening.

WHAT: Free Event to Watch Comet Tempel 1 Collide with the Deep
Impact Spacecraft!
