Hi Mike,
Thanks for the invitation. I'm posting this reply concurrently to SACannounce
and to our board. I'll mention it at the SAC meeting this Friday as well.
Please
send information regarding where we are to set up/can we drive our vehicles
onto the plaza, etc. You may want to inquire of East Valley Astrononomy Club
as well, probably via Howard Israel whom I think you know from the Science
Center: howmad1@xxxxxxx .
Hi Saguaro Astronomy Club:
Here's a message from Mike George/AZ Science Center requesting a star party for
the Earth Hour of Darkness Saturday March 29th @ 8pm. Tom and I will be there
and hopefully some more of SAC and some EVAC. Maybe we can walk over to
Friday's or Alice Cooper's Town afterward for a beer or a rootbeer. Mike
George will be sending me details which I'll convey as soon as I know them.
Kind regards,
Jennifer Polakis, VP
Saguaro Astronomy Club

Subject: Earth Hour and Star Party at Arizona Science Center
Hello Steve, Jennifer, and Jack,
We will be participating in the Earth Hour event on the 29th of this month at
8pm. During this event, all city and government buildings of Phoenix will turn
out their lights for one hour. I know that this is a very last minute request
of the Saguaro Astronomy Club, but would you like to take advantage of the
momentarily dark skies and have a star party in the Heritage Square Park at the
Arizona Science Center? It will give a forum in which to discuss, among other
things, light pollution. The website for the event is www.earthhour.org.
Earth Hour is an international event to highlight the impact that individuals
can have on the environment and Phoenix is among six or seven US cities
participating. I hope that we can work together on this event. If not for
this, then hopefully on future endeavors.
Thanks!
Mike
