[sac-board] Re: Board meeting topics....

Paul,

Upon re-reading your post, I'm not sure I follow.

Do I understand correctly that you believe this topic should be presented to
the general membership
for a vote only if the board votes against question #1. So, if the board
decides to implement a
waiver policy, then no general membership vote is required and the constitution
is amended to allow
the waivers? If the board decides not io implement a waiver then the question
will be posed to the
membership? I'm not sure why this distinction is made here. Article X-B states
that any amendment to
the constitution is subject to a majority vote by the membership, which I
interpret as a
ratification of the board's action.
I can't find anything in the constitution that allows a general membership vote
based solely on the
perceived importance of the topic.

I agree this is an important topic... all the more reason to follow the club's
constitution.

Peter

There is only one questions that needs answering at the board meeting:

(1) Does SAC want to follow the advice of its counsel?

Per message #2 which AJ posted, Kimball's advice was to have releases signed at
each event,
including our monthly star party.

If we choose not to follow this advice:

(2) Does SAC what to require releases for only special events like
        the Messier Marathon?

What the releases contain, is not germane to this decision, and should not be
discussed at this
meeting.

If the decision is no for question (1), then this needs to be taken before the
general assembly
also. It's important enough that the membership in general should vote on it.
