Dear ABF Members and Associates
ABF is pleased to advise that after many months of work, the Copyright
Amendment (Disability and Other Provisions) Bill 2016 was introduced into
Parliament today. ABF and its members and associates have been very involved in
the development of this Bill to allow better access to copyright material for
people who are blind or vision impaired. We have been working closely with the
Australian Digital Alliance on this issue and are pleased that the Bill has
finally been introduced into Parliament.
As stated in the attached ABF media release, these proposed amendments were
intended to underpin the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published
Works for People who are Blind, Visually Impaired or otherwise Print Disabled
in Australia ensuring the provisions for the production and cross-border
sharing of accessible works would be easily accessible to all Australians.
We are calling on all Parliamentarians to pass this Bill as soon as possible.
Please pass on to your own networks.
