The holders were made for glass plates, but with film sheaths you could use
9x12 sheet film. Instead of film sheaths you could use plates of glass, plexi
glass or metal, to compensate for the thickness, and sheet film on top of them.
9x12 sheet film is still made by Efke, Ilford and Foma, and maybe other
manufacturers, and of course you can cut down 4x5" sheets to fit.
The Avus came with Voigtländer lenses, so the Tessar is probably a retrofit. I
have mounted a 4,5/13,5 Tessar on my 9x12 Avus too, since the original Skopar
lens wasn't sharp enough.

Pan- and orthopan films must be handled in complete darkness, but ortho films
(like Efke 25 ORT or Ilford Ortho Plus) can be handled in dark red light.
I use a CombiPlan daylight tank for sheet film.
