I think that the Gates, as a work of art, are somewhat over-rated, as
are most of Christo's projects IMO, but the overall effect was
nevertheless quite beautiful. Even more important was the really
festive atmosphere throughout the park--people were REALLY happy.
I agonized about photographing this event. I normally hate the thought
of taking photographs that are just like everyone else's, but decided
to go ahead anyway. I've seldom seen so many cameras in one place but I
doubt that more than 10,000 or so people have been perverse enough to
photograph these saffron orange objects in B&W, although that still
isn't much of a claim to originality. Nevertheless, I had the chutzpah
to post an album on the my camera club's website :-)

All photographs were taken with a Rolleiflex 2.8E (Xenotar) with an
orange filter on Ilford HP5.
