The question was raised on the Bay III f2.8 only.  All Bay III lenses have
the same spacing.  The Bay II dichotomy is a red herring, and is not
germane to the topic of Bay III finishes.

BTW, the satin or brushed finish hinged Bay III caps are NOT aluminium,
they are matte chrome plated on a base metal.

There was a Bay I (one) hinged cast aluminium cap that was sold by a
San Diego dealer.  He had them made in Tijuana.  I bought his last 3.
