[rollei_list] Re: Weird Little Rollei

I used a Rolleiflex sl2000f for a while in the '80's, with Zeiss 35 and
85mm lenses. Ergonomically, the camera is tolerable at waist level,
uncomfortable for eye-level horizontals, and just silly for shooting
verticals. The grip kits help with the handling but add enormously to the
camera's bulk. All the features and capabilities looked attractive to me
then, but the electronics in mine were none too reliable, and it spent as
much of its tenure with me at Marflex service as it did in my hands.
Initially Rollei had a standard AA battery clip available for the camera,
and was saying that alkalines were okay to use – not the case. Soon
afterwards, the company had changed it's tune to saying 'use only the
rechargables', but I got this message after I received the $465 invoice for
repairs. I dumped the system, lovely Zeiss glass and all, for a Canon F-1.

Firstly thanks John,
I think those are the cameras I have in mind. How did you rate them
optically?
Are they using Zeiss optics ?
Does anyone have shots taken using these models?
Thanks,
Marvin.

Marvin, do you mean the 2000F/3003/3001 series?

If so see: http://www.cameraquest.com/rol3003.htm and no doubt others
too.

I have a 3003 and use it for my 35mm photography. I like the flexability
of the two viewfinders. NiCd batteries are a bore but can be replaced
with NiMH cells which do not have the 'memory' issues. The
interchangeable magazines are not much use to me now although I have
used them in the past when it is quicker to change a magazine rather
than rewind and load a new film. I have had shutter jamming problems on
a couple of occasions but they were fixed in a service. Metering is
reliable as is TTL flash with SCA 356 adapter.

A Polaroid back, underwater housing and night vision attachment were
some of the 'extreme' accessories available (at a cost though).

I hope this helps

Regards

John

Rollei used to make this weird little camera a sort of square format
35mm camera, it looked like a Video cam; did anyone ever own one or use
one?
Thanks,
MArvin.
