[rollei_list] Re: Wanted to Buy Macintosh SE/30

It's funny but I wouldn't put it past apple to make a comeback and challenge PCs for market dominance. The great selling point for PCs was that they were faster for the money and the software base was bigger. That's still trure but a few things have changed. The user base has gotten older and older users prefer to pay more for something that migfht not be as fast but won't require them to become their own computer mechanics. Secondly the quantity of software needed for computers has dwindled to just a few apps such as an office type suite and a browser. The new OSes have all the stuff that used to be considered utilities 20 years ago. Finally, the speed of a computer is not as much of a factor as it used to be since miost are fast enough to pop up app windows faster than you can sneeze and speed is limited not by the local machine but by the internet connection. I'm going to have to take another look at apple in the future. Oh yeah. And they are so much better built than most PCs. I think the monitors are supposed to be premium quality too.

PC user since DOS I switched to OSX and a Powerbook a few years back, now almost exclusively Mac except for the odd program I have to run for work on a PC. I now have an INtel Core Duo Mac that runs both Windows and Mac OSX. It is the best value computer I have ever owned. Mac OSX is way better than any Windows OS I have ever used.

Well
I want a classic format Mac. The SE 30 is the last one they made.
It also takes more ram than the colour classic and it looks better.
The classic mac kind of reminds me of the Rollei 6006!

Javier:

Why an SE/30 and not the Color Classic? Still a nice compact machine for basic data entry (slide database?). Much better "cool factor" than any of the current short-lives Macs.

Hi Everyone
I'm looking for one of these, hopefully in nice shape, hopefully cheap,
hopefully with software and hopefully soon. After a lot of reasoning I've
convinced myself that I need one.
So then, if you have one to part with please let me know. I have paypal.
Thanks
