It seems to me the limiting factor in our future use of Kodachrome will be processing beyond Dwayne's stated finish of 12/10. We can stockpile film for the future, but if there is no hope for development beyond that date, there is not much point in too big a backlog of unshot rolls. Where else in the world might there be to turn beyond Dwayne's, or what might it take to convince Dwayne to keep a processing line alive longer than 18 months from now?
That really is not true at all. Anyone who wishes can pick up the Kodachrome market as Kodak's abandoning it makes the patents what these computer geeks call "open source". The problem is that it is a fringe market. Show me a decent market, and I can find chemistry folks who will resurrect it.
