[rollei_list] Re: Stereo thread from Slide film is still alive

Austin,

I bought a Heidoscope (model 4) 6x13 stereo camera a few years ago. It
came with a bespoke contemporary roll film back as well as an original
plateback - a fascinating piece of engineering design. After running a
transparency film through it, I was a bit disappointed. Some frames were
overlapped. The exposure was spot on considering the old air-damper
shutter speed controller and the colours were really vibrant. Having
purchased an old WW2 stereo viewer, I found that the stereo effect was
peculiar and 'inside-out'. I put the camera back in the cabinet with the
feeling that stereo photography was not worth another roll of film. I
subsequently found out that the frames have to be transposed when
mounting them....... I did more research on the internet. Mounting was
critical.=20

So, having searched for cardboard stereo MF mounts on the internet and
learned that Rocky Mountain Memories did not have any in stock any more,
I had a cutter made up. I ran a roll of film through the camera, cut and
transposed the transparencies and mounted them in the mounts and had a
look. Amazing, the clarity, brightness and detail; subjects really jump
out.

There is more to the technical side of mounting so if anybody is
interested in further details, links or a few mounts please contact me
off list. I have a small quantity of mounts but I do not intend to go
into full production. ;-).

Hi Eric,

Your observations have me curious (and you're surprised, eh? ;-) I'd
like to understand more about what you've seen. Stereo not
withstanding, since I've never seen it. .......................

Regards,

Austin
