My uncoated tessar (Super Ikonta B) is just as sharp, or sharper, than my
Yashicamat 124G! I comparison-shot them.

This is reported often enough to make me think that the Tessar in this camera is an outstanding design. Note that it has two strikes against it: first, Tessars are right at their limit at f/2.8, and, secondly, front element focusing lenses must have some compromises in their design. Zeiss seems to have overcome both problems with this lens although I'll bet its not completely sharp off axis at large openings, but then even slower Tessar are not.
The rangefinder system used on the Super-Ikonta's is an excellent one and one which tends to stay in adjustment.
