I recently - two months ago - bought a slightly used Epson Perfection
4180 Photo recently which can scan up to medium format slides and
negatives at up to a maximum of 4800 optical dpi - or 4800 x 9600 dpi
with Epson's "Micro Step Drive"(TM) technology - for (Can.) $210 or
so, and am quite satisfied with it. They are sold on e-Bay regularly,
and also elsewhere.
My choice though would be, if I could afford it, the Epson Perfection
4990 Photo, which can scan up to 8x10 slides. See its specs at the
Epson web site, <http://www.epson.com/>. Maybe one day I'll sell
mine, and upgrade. (Want to buy mine? I'll sell it to you for just
Can.$199 plus shipping! - I've hardly used it, and it comes with the
original box and all the hardware and software, and a large chunk of
the warranty as well.)
Cheers.
