[rollei_list] Re: Sammy Davis, Jr. and his Rollei

The Rollei on the book cover looks more like a Baby Rollei (Sammy was a
pretty small guy, and the Rollei looks small in his hands.

I do remember Jerry Lewis from decades ago talking about photographer (I
think he was substituting for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show). He said
that the hobby was an expensive addiction. How right he was.

Our local rag had a feature review yesterday of "Photo by Sammy Davis, Jr."
Text by Burt Boyar, 
Regan Books, $49.50.

Apparently he started documenting his life/entertainer environment early
with a Brownie. Later on 
Jerry Lewis gave him a Rollei TLR. A couple of pix from the book were
included: Robert Kennedy, Judy 
Garland, and what seems to be a self-portrait showing Sammy with the Rollei
(finger on the release, 
L-R reversed,) and Jerry.
