I use some black card stock I made double thick at work for the backing plates. Works very well. I'll look to see if I have any more if you're interested.

The metal on the holders is very soft so you can make certain the masking area is tight but the nap of the red velvet on the back just rubs right off, probably due to age. I talked to Todd Belcher about it once and he had no red velvet to replace it so I have been thinking of getting some new black velvet and gluing it in place.Working habits is an understatement.
