That's too bad.
I've avoided upgrading because Panther does everything I need, and the
added features that were touted were completely unimportant to me - 1.
I keep everything structured in folders and know where everything is (I
shudder at the thought that Apple encourages people to just let
everything lie around unsorted and let Spotlight take care of it for
you), 2. Dashboard is the same as Konfabulator (and I only use a few
widgets anyway). The other stuff (RSS feeds in Safari, etc) is fluff.
I'm on a laptop, and not on-line most of the day, but at work (working
:-).
Plus I read about some small problems with the software I use at work
(audio), which is stable and solid. So I saved myself $100 :-)
Cheers,
Thor

When Panther (10.3) came out, I was sent a free copy, loaded it over

the GUI, also program tasks and functions) than it had under 10.2.
That's a trend I like! That also means that my machine will be
usefull longer, meaning more value for my money.
I just recently upgraded to 10.4.3 because I could not get Photoshop
CS2 and DAZ Studio to run under 10.3.8 . Photoshop CS2 would not run
at all, and DAZ Studio wouldn't let me use all its features. Overall,
10.4.3 works well, but the new "improved" search/find feature is MUCH
slower than the old one, and the new version of Mail has a number of
glitches (Mailboxes showing that they have new messages in them, when
in fact there are none, VERY slow search that only lets you select
where you want to search AFTER you type in what you are searching for,
etc.) The software engineers at Apple seem to be afflicted with the
same problem as most others, not knowing when to leave something that
works fine alone. They also moved buttons and hid some buttons for no
apparent reason on the new version of iMovie. That kind of idiotic
stuff makes you waste time finding where they moved something to when
you could be working. Adobe tends to do the same dumb stuff each time
they upgrade Photoshop. If they want to add new features, fine. But
leave the existing ones alone!! Of course if they did that all those
guys who write new editions of Photoshop how-to books would be out of
work.
