Take two similar shots of a distant subject with the lens wide open - one with focus on your ground glass, one with your distance scale. Which one's sharper? You can also run a more comprehensive focusing test, like the one

The scale should be exact at infinity. Errors may show up a close distances. Evidently there was more than one scale available to compensate for the slight variation in focal length of production lenses. I find the scale of one of my Rolleis appears to be accurate for close distances when measured to the film plane and another that appears to be calibrated to the entrance pupil (about the front panel of the camera). Actually, distance scales should be calibrated to the entrance pupil but many use the film plane.
