Subject: [rollei_list] Rolleiflex Focusing
...and while I'm on the subject of the Rolleimeter.
While testing focus I noticed that what's in focus on my
ground glass doesn't seem to jive with what my distance
scale says - it may just be my lack of practice with
meters. Things that are much further away than 20m are
out of focus at infinity. What should I believe, the
ground glass or the scale?
Thanks,
Elias

Something is wrong. Check the ground glass to see if its
cocked. The GG is held aginst the top of the finder by a
couple of leaf type springs on either side. Push the GG with
the eraser end of a pencil and see if it seats better. If
not you must check the focus of the taking lens. This is
done with a square of fine grain ground glass that will fit
into the film channel. The infinity stop for the focus is
the fousing knob itself. The the taking lens is set for
exact infinity focus, the knob set against the stop, and
tightened. The co-incidence of taking and finder lens is
done by adjusting the finder lens. This adjustment requires
removing the front cover of the camera. I've had ground
glass screens get stuck a couple of times. Its easy to fix
so I hope its that.
I believe the finder hood should be open when using the
Rolleimeter, it cerainly should not be tilted. There is an
on-line instruction booklet for Rollei accessories that
covers the Rolleimeter but I can never remember where it is.
Its a site maintained by a member of this list.
