Were there not two stages over time in thyristor use?Stage one- the thyristor simply dumped the capacitor when the required output was reached.
Stage two- Thyristors became available that could be switched off and this left the capacitor partly charged, ready for a new shot more quickly, and saving battery power.
Wow, it's been a long time but I am pretty sure the early thyristors, once triggered, couldn't be turned off, similar to the effect one got with a pair of transistors triggering each other. (NPN-PNP combination I think)
