According the the Social Security Death Index, Doyle L. Riley was born 11-10-25 and died 5-27-94, so it looks like he was 69 years old. He lived in Texas. I found a couple references to him on the Internet. Looks like he imported filters from Japan (somebody says in the 50s and 60s although I think he was still doing this when he died) and these were either sold under the Rilex brand name or Niko. Maybe they were made by Niko and sold here as Rilex. Doyle's grandson has a blog called Rilex Photography. He was only 7 when his grandfather died (he says, from congestive heart failure). He says that Riley Marketing is technically still in business, although the Rilex strobes (all 15+ years old not) are taking up space in a garage. I looked at the auction and this Rilex camera was made in California. It's possible there is a connection, since it also has the name Riley on it in addition to Rilex. Since Mr. Riley worked for Ponder and Best when he coined the name Vivitar, it's possible he lived in other places besides Texas. His grandson has a Vivitar camera with Doyle Riley's name engraved on the bottom. --- Rollei List - Post to rollei_list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx - Subscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'subscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Unsubscribe at rollei_list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the subject field OR by logging into www.freelists.org - Online, searchable archives are available at //www.freelists.org/archives/rollei_list
