Sir Thomas Beecham once called me an idiot, I think not deservedly.
Other than that, he was a pretty good conductor.

Because of my mother (concert pianist) I met a lot of conductors. ALL (except Thomas Schippers) were big egos. I was a brat undefoot -- but Karajan wasn't nasty to me. Mom was discovered by Beecham -- now THAT was an ego!

Von Karajan, who joined in 1935, was a member of the Nazi Party. Afterward, he was unrepentant. I never bought any of his recordings
because I don't support Nazis, no matter what they are selling.
