[rollei_list] Re: Rollei 35 trials

Elias, f 8 means nothing, it's only an f stop I took
like example to write the way the hyperfocal and DOF
scale work, you need to use the f stop that you
consider necessary. The hyperfocal is an optimal
distance regarding the DOF from the point of view
allows the largest sharp area for the f stop you are
using, the 35 has marks for the short distance
hyperfocal and long distance hyperfocal, but you can
use the distance that you wish, of course.

The last time I looked for Rollei 35 manuals I only
could find for the 35 Sonnar, anyway the camera
handling is almost identical for both cameras and then
the 35 S manual is useful too, the 35 SE is a bit
different for the lightmeter.

I talked about the follower needle in the lightmeter,
the lightmeter has two needles, one to measure the
light and the other called follower coupled to the f
stops and shutter speeds wheels controls via an
ingenious mechanism with a differential lever, a
transfer lever for the shutter speeds and a transfer
lever for the f stops and a part called transfer
follow pointer, when you change the shutter speeds
and/or the f stops this mechanism changes the follower
needle position in the lightmeter, you need to see if
the follower pointer coincides with the light
measurement needle to obtain a right exposure, if they
don't coincide you need to change the f stops or the
shutter speeds till both needles coincide. If the
mechanism to couple the shutter speeds and the f stops
with the follower in the lightmeter needs a CLA,
and/or the shutter needs a CLA and/or the wheels need
a CLA, to move the follower in the lightmeter becomes
heavier. This needle is called follower because it
must follow the exposure adjustments in the camera and
the light measurement needle position.

BTW it would be very interesting to see your father
photograph with the Rolleiflex on 1952.-

All the best
Carlos
