[rollei_list] Re: Ritz Camera in Chapter 11

Hi David,

Easier to use? How so. Smaller, sure. But there is no commercially
available digital camera that I'm aware of that is easier to use than a film
P&S. But I guess that depends on what your criteria is for "easy".

I'm not sure how booting a computer, logging in, navigating to some
directory, looking through undescriptive (or marginally descriptive)
filenames to find a picture is easier than taking out a box, pulling out an
envelope, and pulling out some 4x6s and going through them. Being I do a
lot of both, in no way, in my experience, is digital easier to view or
retrieve. Sure, storing digital images is easier...if you never want to
retrieve them.

Manipulation of digital images *is* easier...but why would you have to
manipulate them? I find with my film images, I don't have to do any
manipulations (typically)...so, at least for me, that's a moot advantage.

When I go drop off film to have it developed (doubles and CD checked and for
a roll of 36 costs under $10) I see people at those digital kiosks for quite
a long time futzing with their images prior to printing.

Well, not necessarily...it's faster, but with my film developing for an
extra buck or what ever it is, I get a CD that has more than sufficient
resolution/quality for a web page or email.

The "advantages" you cite are certainly (real or perceived) advantages for
some people, no doubt, but not for everyone.

Austin
