I think some pretty important photographers (in history) have said things like, 1 or 2 frames per year...

It is in England. I have a friend with a dealership, photofinishing is 10% of what it was. People only print a very few pictures, not all of them like when processing a film, they can now edit beforehand (I used
to throw away about 75% of my prints, even though that meant still
keeping some I should not). Most people now edit in camera and just
print what they like. Much less wasteful too.
I can not get film processed anywhere near me, I mail it to a good
lab, or did, I haven't used much film the last 12 months.
