[rollei_list] Re: 'Old' Zeiss glass question

Don,

I was under the impression that Jerry Lehrer was somehow attached to Nelson
Photo, so I was referring to him!. I was but a 20-year-old when I bought my
Pentax Spotmatic there in 1970. To be honest, the only person I remember
clearly in the place was a customer who had a Canon rangefinder with the
biggest front element I had every laid eyes on (and, back then, f/1.4 was
fast to me). I assume that it was a 1.2 or that crazy 0.95. I recall
thinking "Why would anyone use that fast of a lens?" Thirty-six years later,
I know the answer. But keep in mind that paying $35 for a Yashica D at the
navy base was quite an investment for a college studen on a $1.35/hr salary.
Fast lenses are not made for youngsters.

But I would have remembered Jerry Lehrer. He would have been the cranky guy.
;-)

Jeffery

Jeffery,

I do not recall any salesperson at Nelson Photo in the '70's named Jerry.
BTW, Nelson has taken over Bob Davis Camera in La Jolla, after their
bankruptcy.

Jerry, guess I missed the prior posting regarding Nelson Photo and previous
managers.

As you know by now, Tom Kiefner, the manager of Nelson's for a long time,
had a stroke a couple of years back. I have been in contact with him from
time to time, and he is also a regular fixture, as a photographer, at SD
State baseball games, been doing it for some 13 or more years.

As you know, his hobby is collecting movie sound tracks, but he has now
started a monthly discussion group about movies and directors. They are
held at the North Park Library the first Wednesday of every month. The one
this week is about The Lost Weekend.

Regarding Bob Davis Camera, the only thing I know is that they were there
one day and gone the next time I was in the area.
