Thanks for sharing, Thor.

I've been watching the RF threads with much interest, and have been
considering a purchase for upwards of 6 months. I've never used a RF,
but am in need of a very small, portable camera for candid's at the
park, travel, and just putzing around. My 35 mm choices currently are
an EOS 5 with zooms (very large & heavy) vs. Nikon EM and 1.4/50. The
Nikon combo is a great size, but the mirror slap and volume is
ridiculous, and worse still, frame spacing has overlap at times and an
indiscriminate light leak I've yet to figure out.

I wonder of the mirror slap and light leak might be related. Most SLRs have some sort of light gasket around the ground glass to seal the edges of the mirror when its up. These often wear out. The ones in my Nikon F camras are made of foam plastic of some sort. When they are worn they no longer cussion the mirror when it comes up. It is just possible that some light is leaking around the edges especially if you dont have an eye cup around the finder window and press your eye against it. I think you could probably test for this visually using a small flashlight. If you remove the lens and set the shutter on time so that it is completely open you can inspect from both sides. Shine the light into the finder with the mirror up. Also shine it around the interior of the camera while looking through the finder. There should be no light either way.
