Name me a 4000 year old stimulus package, just one.
Too easy ! The Pyramids of Aegypt, of course.Pharao diverted from State Funds only 10% of the sum as a stimulus package, and a private group of investors sponsored by a famous papyrus manufacturer paid for the rest. The return on investment, however, was computed on the basis of about 4,000 years of paying visitors to the monument.
More rencently, the same scheme with a long-term return on investment was applied to funding the construction of the Channel Tunnel. One very difficult point in the agreement was to have President Mitterrand (an uncompromising socialist, a champion of nationalizations with an uncompromising socialist government at the time) to sit in front of Mrs. Thatcher at lunch time, for the regular duration of a French lunch. Eventually the protocol found another British celebrity who agreed to be there and sign for Britain.
