The 120tf is an upgraded model compared to the Polaroid Sprintscan.

Scanning at 4000 dpi (or greater) is a slow process, regardless of the
make of scanner used. It's even slower if one adds the overhead of
features such as Digital ICE.
Scanning directly into Photoshop is not the way to get the best quality
out of any scanner, so to me it implies that your friend's needs are
somewhat below the level of equipment that the 120tf or Nikon 8000/9000
represents. While the ViewScan UI is quite different from most scanning
software, it does a much better job than Photoshop via TWAIN drivers, as
ViewScan controls the hardware directly and offers far more pre-scanning
adjustments. And, as I wrote before, the 120tf ships with SilverFast AI
which also controls the scanner directly and offers pre-scanning controls,
if a more Photoshop-like UI is preferred.

Perhaps I'm missing your point, but this all seems appropriate for a
discussion of scanning 120 film.
