I think you are dramatically oversimplifying this case study but to your main
point, see now how Kodak and others are marketing their integrated systems to
achieve the original vision with updated technology; no need for a computer or
computer know-how. Just buy your expendables from Big Yellow and you are good
to go...

Actually, Kodak grew into 'the' photographic icon because it provided a
full service. Buy a camera, send it in for processing, it comes back
with prints and reloaded with fresh roll of film.
Now, if only digital were that simple!
