I agree with Elias; there may be a bit of exterior junk that has found its
way inside, or something may have come loose and is blocking the mechanism.
Either way, I wouldn't try to fix it myself. What you might try would be to
gently work the focusing knob while holding the camera at different angles.
This might tell you whether you have something loose inside the housing.
(You don't hear anything rattling, do you?)
