Hi John:
Prochnow explains the reasons to eliminate the GX TLR automatic film
feeler mechanism to start the counter in the Report IV, he was Rollei cameras
designer chief (or similar) by that time, he did not participate in the GX
development directly but he checked the prototypes. One of the resons was
identical regarding the SL66, film manufacture differences, the other reason
was that Rollei knew several pro photographers forgot to pass the film between
the rollers to activate the counter and then Rollei decided to eliminate the
mechanism.
Anyway I have used any kind of film with the 2.8C, 3.5E and the 3.5F and never
had a problem with the film feeler mechanism, only once the problem was for a
very thin Fuji paper and an Agfa spool that couldn't hold the paper according
the way I load the camera, but it had nothing to do with the film feeler
mechanism, however I know other users had problems, perhaps due to the rollers
adjustment.-
