I cheerfully drive a 1984 Audi 4000S with 250,000 miles (400,000km) on the
clock. By all reports, it is probably about half-way to its use-by date,
but it, then, might break tomorrow. A replacement will cost me around $500
(=80700 or so), plus a 2% sales tax.

A 62% income tax! That is insupportable for a normal nation as an economic
reality, as it chokes any desire for improvement in income. Denmark,
admittedly, has benefits by being a small and sheltered land with some
grand economic graces, such as fertile farmlands and products desired
across the world. (Danish canned hams are available in most food stores in
the US.) But, 62%? Wow! The highest income tax in the US is half of
this, and there is an active movement to replace the entire US tax
structure with a national sales tax, recently endorsed by the Speaker of
our House of Representatives. (Those interested can learn a lot more at:
http://www.fairtax.org but read the ENTIRE plan before commenting on it, or
read the Linder/Boortz book on this plan which should be available in a
month or two.)

Again, I suspect that you folks need a new government. Or an electorate
which could tell the government, "PLEASE! I'd rather do it myself!"
